Foods That Stain Your Teeth
Your teeth are a very important part of your good personality. You must be aware that there are different kinds of food items that can stain your teeth after frequent consumption. One must be aware of these kinds of foods so that we can take better care of our teeth. The following are some of the commonly stain-causing food.
Coffee
Coffee, especially black coffee, will stain your teeth. Many people will brush their teeth and then immediately go and drink a cup of coffee. The dark color of the coffee can easily stain your teeth, even if you only have one or two cups of coffee a day. You can prevent this kind of staining by adding a little bit of milk.
Tea
Even if you switch from coffee to tea, it is of no use as a tea also can stain your teeth. The darker the tea is, the more likely it is to stain your teeth. If you cannot leave the tea habit, then you can choose green tea or white tea instead of black tea.
Soda
Soda is bad for the human body as well as for your human teeth. Soda not only contains sugar but also contains dark colors that will stain your teeth, especially if you drink it every single day. You can prevent staining by soda by drinking light color sodas.
Dark Juice
Grape and cranberry juices are the most common fruit juices that can stain your teeth. Even if these juices are natural, they contain dark pigments which can cause staining. Drinking light colored juices could help you avoid these stains. Drinking apple juice can very much help in reducing the staining.
Soya Sauce
Soya sauce is commonly used in chowmein and other Chinese and Japanese dishes. Soya sauce is a dark colored liquid that can easily stain your teeth. As soya sauce contains a high amount of salt in it, it can easily stain your teeth. Use a little amount of this sauce while cooking.
Tomato Sauce
Tomato sauce is very commonly used in every house. Any type of tomato sauce can stain your teeth. You can avoid staining from tomato sauce by eating a salad before taking tomato sauce. You should also take tomato sauce occasionally for preventing staining.
Cold Drinks
Cold drinks are very acidic in nature which is very harmful to your teeth. After drinking cold drinks, your teeth can easily stain if you take some dark colored food afterward. Avoid cold drink as much as possible. Drink cold water after any sports or gym instead of any cold drink.
Wine
Wine is also acidic in nature which is a very harmful thing for our teeth. Wines, especially the red wine are very dark colored drinks which can easily stain your teeth if not taken care. Drink wine occasionally for avoiding staining of your teeth.
Candy and Sweets
If the candy or sweets that you are taking can make your tongue colored, that means it can also stain your teeth. Candy and sweets not only helps in growing bacteria in your mouth but can also contribute in staining of your teeth. Candy and sweets must be taken sometimes only and if possible, non-colored candies.
Turmeric Powder
Turmeric powder is a very commonly used food coloring powder used in every house. This powder, when used in excess, can also cause the yellowish stain to your teeth. Try to limit the use of such stain causing powder in your daily food.
Prevention
Wash your Mouth
Always wash your mouth after eating something that can stain your teeth. Take a glass of water and wash your mouth thoroughly. There is no need of any medicated mouth wash after every meal. A glass of water is enough.
Drink and Eat Quickly
Whenever you eat or drink something that can stain your teeth, try to eat or drink it quickly. Don’t let the staining food or drink stay in your mouth for a long time period. However, when you eat something, make sure that you chew it properly before swallowing it inside.
Use a Straw
Use a straw whenever you drink any kind of stain-causing drink. The straw will keep the drink away from your teeth and have minimum contact with your teeth.
Brush Twice a Day
Brushing twice every day is a must anyhow. Brushing is ultimately the regular way of keeping your teeth clean. Brush your teeth regularly in the morning and at night before going to bed.
Mouth Wash
Medicated mouthwashes are easily available in the market. These mouthwashes should be included in your regular oral hygiene habit. Mouthwashes keep your teeth protected by covering your teeth with a protective layer. Mouth wash also keeps your mouth fresh.
